Is Trinidad a dangerous place?
No more than the USA or Europe to contradict rumors saying the contrary .
And if we dare say this, it is because we live in Trinidad .
Like everywhere else in the world, there are rules to abide by and no-go areas .
If visitors whether local or foreign are careful and vigilant and steer clear of dangerous places which are few and well identified, they do not have to worry about their safety, like everywhere in the world .
Our purpose is not to downplay the reality of security issues in Trinidad, but simply to put into perspective what has been said or written on this topic and which often overstates reality thus harming the country’s reputation.

Tourist sites In Trinidad
Trinidad has many tourist jewels worth visiting .
The North coast beaches :
- Maracas beach: the pleasure of driving along the access road along the coast and through the forest, of lying on the beautiful white sand beaches and body surfing on the waves of a refreshing sea and finally savoring delicious bake & shark,
- Grande Riviere beach: accessible by the East, it is one of the world’s major leatherback sea turtle nesting beaches. One may stay there and witness the laying and, then later on, the hatching followed by the baby turtle race for survival towards the sea.
On the East coast, there is Mayaro bay with its beach, coconut trees and the sea.
Another tourist attraction is Lake Pitch, the largest natural deposit of asphalt in the world covering some 100 acres.
To appreciate the strange diversity of birds, you need to go to the regional park bird sanctuary in the swamp (Caroni Lagoon National Park).
The visit of the sanctuary on a small boat is a wonderful ride through lagoons, canals and mangroves where one comes across alligators, pink flamingos, herons and especially the red ibis, Trinidad’s symbolic bird which nests in Mangrove trees.
Observing the thousands of birds which live in the Caroni swamp take off is something not to miss.
In the North, the bird sanctuary of the Asa Wright Nature center, a former plantation is also a wonderful place to watch the local fauna, in particular, the guacharos, a nocturnal bird which hides in Dunstan Cave.
Otherwise, one may go and stay in Tobago, located 35 miles off the coast, where there are beaches all around the island.
Golfers can take advantage of a 9 hole golf course, 10 minutes away by bike from the shipyard.
